I was just reading the "Psychology of Poker by Alan Schoonmaker. As an avid online and offline poker players and poker blogger, I read so many books as I can on the subject of poker. In my opinion this is one of the greatest books ever written. This book really focuses on the psychology of the game and why players as they play and why you play as you want. This book covers the basic skills or not.
The best thing about this book is that it skips the basics and focuses on the finer more subtle parts of the game. In my opinion these are the things you need to know to be a champion. The book is full of original content and written in a clear and precise manner. The book is easy to understand and even when the author plunges into a complex subject. I also like the chapter on how to strategic make adjustments on the types of players you play based discussion. The author holds a doctorate in psychology and that's great because he does not like any other poker strategy expert; he gives you advice quantified based on scientific evidence.
The only drawback of the book is that it basically ignores the issue of online to play. As online poker continues to become more popular, I fear that this book will become less important.
Finally, I recommend this book for the Intermediate to expert level poker player. What you will learn to improve your game in any case.
